Details that matter
A 700 mm lantern: eight alabaster panels in a brass cage, 760 mm tall, with four lamps inside and a vented top.

Cage structure
Eight vertical brass ribs and two rings carry the stone, so panels can be replaced one by one without dismantling the lantern.

Vent
The top plate is drilled and screened; heat leaves upward instead of cooking the top of the stone, which is what keeps alabaster from crazing.
