Details that matter
Five alabaster slabs of graduated width, stacked with 40 mm offsets over 1500 mm — a linear fitting that reads as a carved object rather than a shade.

Offset logic
Slabs step 40 mm in section, which lets light spill between layers instead of only at the ends; the section stays under 320 mm.

Slab thickness
Each slab is 18 mm thick, cut from one block so the veining continues across the steps when seen from the end.
